USF survived FIU. Tim Beck's offense gave everyone else the hard part.

Before kickoff, Beck said, “I feel like we'll be flawless.” His offense answered with 208 total yards, 100 passing yards, 14 first downs and one touchdown against a team that went 7–6 in Conference USA last year. FIU outgained USF 381–208. The Bulls crawled to 3.7 yards per play, hammered out a miserable 2.8 yards per rush and watched their defense produce three turnovers that became 13 of USF's 19 points.
The scoreboard says win. The box score says the Beck era opened with an offense that was outgained by 173 yards at home and needed four field goals plus turnover help to escape FIU.
